Manuals

The Paste Special window is opened from the workspace using the Edit-Paste Special command.  It is available only when a range of a song has been copied to the clipboard.

Paste Special is similar to the standard Edit-Paste command, but it offers a wider range of options and allows you finer control of the paste operation.

This window may appear even in response to the standard Paste command, if the source and destination ranges are not compatible, or if your intentions are not clear.

Controls

Operation

Specifies what type of paste operation you want to peform:

Paste Replace - the contents of the destination cells are replaced by the copied cells.  This the standard Edit-Paste operation.

Paste Merge - the contents of the destination cells are merged with the copied cells.  Merging works differently for each track type.

Paste Insert - the copied cells are inserted into the song at the focus location.

Paste Append - the copied cells are appended to the end of the song.

Tracks

Specifies how the copied tracks are allocated to the destination tracks.

By default, the content of each copied track will be pasted back into the same track, but you can exclude particular tracks from the paste by selecting (none), or redirect their content by selecting a different track.

Note that events can be pasted between tracks, but the track setup and scope are not.  For this you would need to use the Exchange Tracks process, which transfers the entire track.

Control Events

You can optionally include in the paste operation the control events (such as section and substyles markers, tempo and volume changes) of the copied range.

Repeat Events

If the copied range includes repeat segments containing virtual events, you can optionally have these events rendered into real events during the paste operation.

Otherwise, different repeat events may be generated in the new location.

Autostyle Events

If the copied range includes autostyle segments containing virtual events, you can optionally have these events rendered into real events during the paste operation.

Otherwise, different autostyle events may be generated in the new location.

Fit To Track

In some cases, the events in the copied range may lie outside the scope of the destination tracks.  This can happen when transferring between tracks, or between different songs.

Track scope is part of the track setup, and includes Note Range for melody segments, the Drum Kit for drum segment and the Chord Tones for rhythm segments.

In these cases, you can select how the events should be fit into the destination tracks:

Expand Scope - the track scope should be expanded to provide the lines needed for the events, by increasing the pitch range, adding drums, etc.

Adjust Events - the events should be placed on different lines in the destination segments.  Compatibility is attempted, for example notes may be shifted but only by whole octaves.

Omit Events - events which do not fit into the destination track scope are omitted, and not pasted.

Align Bars

Usually, the paste operation automatically aligns events on bar boundaries between the copied and destination ranges.  An event on the second beat of a copied bar will always end up in the same location in a destination bar.

Where the time signatures in the copied and destination ranges result in different bar sizes, you will need to select how event timing is handled during the paste operation.  This option is inactive otherwise.

(none) - paste each event at the same absolute location from the start of the range.  This may cause misalignment of events relative to bar boundaries.

Stretch/Shrink - paste each event at a scaled location (and with scaled duration) within each bar.  This may cause changes in the perceived timing of musical phrases.

Pad/Trim - paste each event at the same absolute location within each bar.  This may cause gaps or lost notes in musical phrases.

OK

Closes the window and performs the paste operation according to the settings.

Cancel

Returns to the workspace and does not paste the copied cells.
