Manuals

The segments of event tracks such as the Melody, Rhythm and Drums tracks are containers for segment events.

These are related to Midi events, but represent practical high-level musical concepts, such as chords and drum rolls, that are comfortable and convenient for a musician to use.

Segment events are translated into low-level Midi events for playback or export.  A single Vibrato Chord event, for example, might be translated into dozens of Midi events.

Track Scope

Part of the track setup for most event tracks is their scope - the range of sounds or tones that segment events can access.

Examples of scope are the Note Range of Melody tracks, and the Drum Kit of the Drums track.  These form the horizontal lines of the segment sheet on which segment events are placed.

You can expand or reduce the scope of tracks at any time.  However, you cannot remove lines which are already being used by events in the track, unless you delete these events first.

Event Display

Events appear as visual objects in segment sheets, where they can be created, moved, stretched, and adjusted in many other ways.  Four events are shown in the picture above.

In work sheets, segment events for all tracks are shown as a thumbnails to give you an overview of where they are within the tracks.  For example, the four events above would appear like this:

Event Properties

All events have a collection of properties which can be edited from within the segment sheets.  When an event is selected, the event properties table shows this collection and allows you to make changes.

Multiple events can be selected and their properties updated together in a single action.

Virtual Events

In some situations, such as with repeat or autostyle segments, Songtrix generates events for you.  These are always shown in gray to indicate they are virtual events which cannot be edited directly.

You can view virtual events in detail within a segment sheet, but they cannot be selected, edited, deleted or moved.

Songtrix may regenerate virtual events at any time, such as when you change the source events (for repeat segments) or style settings (for autostyle segments).

If you remove the autostyle or repeat attribute from a segment (or use Segment-Render) then its virtual events are converted into real events which can be edited in the usual way.
