The Drum Kit page appears in the Track Setup window for the Drums track.
It specifies the scope of the track, which is the collection of drum sounds made available as drum segment lines.
In Midi, drum sounds are allocated to the pitches (or keys) of notes in the track. There 128 of these, but often only the 47 drum sounds defined by General Midi are available on Midi devices.
You can include as many drum sounds as you like, but a large drum kit is less convenient to work with in segment sheets, and reduces the detail that can be shown in the work sheets.
Controls
Include
Shows the drums that are currently included in the drum kit. Drums which are already used by events in the Drums track are indicated with an asterisk and cannot be excluded unless these events are deleted first.
The order of drums in the list determines the order in which they appear as drum segment lines.
When selecting drums in the list, you can use the Ctrl and Shift keys to make a multiple selection. The total count of drums in the kit is shown at the top of the list.
Exclude
Shows the available drum sounds which are not currently included in the drum kit.
When selecting drums in the list, you can use the Ctrl and Shift keys to make a multiple selection. The total count of drums excluded from the kit is shown at the top of the list.
Move Up
Moves the selected drum(s) upwards in the list.
Move Down
Moves the selected drum(s) downwards in the list.
Play Drum
There is one of these buttons for both the Include and the Exclude lists. They audition the sound of the selected drum(s) in the each list.
Auditioning also happens automatically as each drum is selected or deselected, depending on your preference.
Add Selected Drums
Adds the selected drums in the Exclude list to the drum kit, transferring them to the Include list.
Remove Selected Drums
Removes the selected drums from the drum kit, and transferring them to the Exclude list.
Show All Drums
Normally, only the drums defined for your selected voice bank and voice in the Controls page will be shown in the Exclude list. These drum names may be defined separately for each Midi Output device.
By ticking the Show All Drums option, you make all Midi pitch values available for selecting into the drum kit, even if there is no drum name defined for them. In this case, a generic name is made from the pitch value (eg. Drum #23).
Preset Kits
Opens the Preset Kits window, where you can quickly select a preset kit of sounds for the drum kit. It must still include all drums used by existing drum events.
Depending on the drum definitions selected for your Midi Output device, you may or may not have preset drum kits available.
Reset
Resets the drum kit to the default collection of drum sounds. It must still include all drums used by existing drum events.
