Many of the commands in Songtrix are actions which apply to the cell in the song which has the focus. Only one cell has the focus at a time.
Track Cells
Cells are formed in tracks by the intersection of bar and segment boundaries. Cells are the units of navigation and selection in a song, but otherwise have no significance - the song data is always stored in segments.
For event tracks (which split only on bar boundaries) there is exactly one cell per bar. The focus cell shown highlighted below is one bar in size.
For harmony tracks, which can split more flexibly, there may be more than one cell per bar, as shown with the focus cell below. If a segment crosses a bar boundary, then multiple cells will refer to the same chord or scale stored in it.
Focus and Views
The focus is coordinated between Mixer View, Track View and Staff View, so you can switch views at any time, and retain the same focus cell.
For example, if the focus is on the event track as shown above, and you switch to Staff View, you will find the focus on the same bar.
Focus Location
The transport bar has a indicator that shows the location of (the left edge of) the focus cell in bar.beat.tick format.
Depending on your selection for View-Time Location, you may see the location in minute.second.cent format instead.
The bar and section of the focus cell are also indicated in the right hand side of the status bar.
Focus Navigation
There are many ways of navigating the focus cell around the work sheet and staff sheet. You can click directly on a cell with the mouse to make it the focus cell.
The following navigating keys apply throughout the workspace:
Up - to the track or line above
Down - to the track or line below
Left - to the prior cell
Right - to the next cell
Shift+Tab - to the prior cell or track
Tab - to the next cell or track
Pg Up - to the line above
Pg Dn - to the line below
Home - to the start of the line
End - to the end of the line
Ctrl+Home - to the first cell
Ctrl+End - to the last cell
There are also some menu and transport bar commands for moving the focus cell.
| Button | Key | Menu |
| F4 | Edit-Go To-Start | |
| Left | Edit-Go To-Prior Cell | |
| Right | Edit-Go To-Next Cell | |
| Ctrl+G | Edit-Go To-Location |
The last command opens the Go To Location window, where you can select a bar or section to jump to.
