The Paste Style window can be opened from the workspace using the Edit-Paste Style command, and allows you to manually paste style events into your song.
You must first select the range of the of work sheet or staff sheet that you want to paste into, then invoke this command. It is available only when the selected range of a song includes track types that can hold style events (ie. melody, rhythm or drum tracks).
Pasting style events manually offers less functionality than assigning styles to tracks and allow them to render virtual events through autostyle segments.
For example, it does not update the track setup (instrument voice, etc), the song tempo, and it is does not manage substyles automatically. So the sound of the pasted style events may vary from their original auditioned sound.
However, it gives you more control over the precise rendering of the style events, if you prefer to work with styles manually.
It can also be a very convenient way of grabbing snippets of musical styles (such as drum rhythms) to use as starting points for development within your song.
Controls
Style
Selects the style you wish to paste events from. These are the same styles which are available through the regular autostyle mechanism, and are those located in the Styles folder.
If the selected style does not contain any of the tracks in the selected range of the song, none of the other controls will be available.
Section
Specifies the section of the selected style that you wish to copy from. Typically this will be Main A or Main B, but it will depend also on which style sections are available in the selected style.
Test Style
Changing the Style or Section dropdown lists will usually give a short audition of the first bar of the selected style section.
By contrast this button will audition the entire selected style section, which may be several bars long.
Operation
Specifies how you want the style events to be pasted in the selected range of the song.
Paste Replace - the contents of the destination cells are replaced with the style events.
Paste Merge - the contents of the destination cells are merged with the style events.
Repeat To Fill Selection
Specifies whether additional copies of the selected style section should be repeated if it is shorter in length than the selected range of the song.
If not ticked, only a single copy of the style section will be pasted, followed by empty space as needed.
Expand Track Scope To Fit
In some cases, the events in the style section may lie outside the scope of the destination tracks in the song.
Track scope is part of the track setup, and includes Note Range for melody segments, the Drum Kit for drum segment and the Chord Tones for rhythm segments.
If ticked, then in these cases, the track scope will be expanded to provide the lines needed for the events, by increasing the pitch range, adding drums, etc.
Omit Melody Unless Reharmonize
Usually when style events are generated for melody tracks, a harmony (provided by a Chords or Scales track) is needed for the song, so that the pitch of the events can be reharmonized to suit.
This option specifies what should happen if a harmony track is unavailable. If ticked, the affected areas will remain empty, with no style events generated.
If not ticked, the events will be pasted without reharmonization, in the original key of the style. This may not suit the existing state of your song, and may require manual change of the event pitches afterwards.
OK
Closes the window and inserts musical events from the selected style into the current song selection.
Cancel
Returns to the workspace without making any change.
