The Scales Track consists of a series of segments which define the scales, or key centres, of the song.  Scale segments can be marked as repeat segments to extend the previous key centre.

While it does not generate sound during playback, the Scales track can guide you in the development of the song, usually in cooperation with the Chords track.

Using Harmony

The Scales track is used to define and update the harmonic and melodic structure of the song.  As well as being helpful in its own right, it has several modes of interaction with the other tracks.

• When linked by the Melody, Riff and Bass tracks, it shows scale guides in their segment sheets, and can automatically reharmonize their events to accommodate a change of key centre.

• For linked melody segments, it can automatically validate events recorded from the Midi Input, correcting or ignoring notes which are not part of the current scale.

• When linked by the Chords track, it shows red scale relations dots in the chord matrix to help guide the selection of chords compatible with the key centres of the song.

• When using styles, it controls the generation of autostyle events with greater precision than the Chords track above.

Scales Setup

All scale types used by the song are stored with the song, in case the song file is opened on another computer where the scale types used are not available.

The Track Setup window for the Scales track contains only the Scales Used page, which lists and can adjust some properties of the scale types used in the song.

Auto Select

The Scales track can be linked to the Chords track to show blue chord relations dots in the scale matrix where key centres are compatible with the chords of the song.

The link to the Chords track can be extended to Auto Select, where a scale is automatically chosen to accommodate each selection of a chord.  Depending on the other links, the change may be cascaded through to the Melody, Riff and Bass tracks.
