The Staff Sheet is the secondary mechanism for interacting with your song in Songtrix. While it has less available editing functions than the work sheet, it presents your song in the universal format of staff notation for viewing and playback.
Songtrix compiles your track events into staff symbols accurately, automatically and continuously, with many options to influence how symbols are generated.
This means you get the benefit of staff notation as an output format with no effort, and you can quickly switch between views in the workspace, to see the same musical events in either format.
Focus Navigation
The focus cell in the staff sheet is the target of many of the commands in Songtrix. The focus is synchronized with the work sheets in the other views.
You can move the focus to whichever part of the song you want to work on, using the mouse or any of these keystrokes.
Up - to the track or system above
Down - to the track or system below
Left - to the prior cell
Right - to the next cell
Shift+Tab - to the prior cell or track
Tab - to the next cell or track
Pg Up - to the system above
Pg Dn - to the system below
Home - to the start of the system
End - to the end of the system
Ctrl+Home - to the first cell in the song
Ctrl+End - to the last cell in the song
Auditioning Cells
Most cells will audition themselves when they receive the focus as you click on them.
You can also audition any cell, without changing the focus, using the middle mouse button, or Ctrl and the left mouse button to get a pointer as shown.
Range Selection
A range of stave cells can be selected by extending the focus cell either horizontally or vertically (or both), using any of these methods:
• You can click and drag directly with the mouse across a range of cells (even across stave systems).
• Shift+Click selects the range cornered by the target cell and the current focus cell.
• Using any of the navigation keystrokes while holding down the Shift key will extend or reduce the range.
• Hovering at the top of a bar or the start of a track gives you an arrow which will select the whole bar or track. You can sweep across several bars or tracks while holding the mouse button down.
Within the range, one cell is always still the focus cell. You can move the focus cell around within the limits of the selected range using the Tab and Shift+Tab keystrokes.
Song Controls
The events in the Control track are shown differently in staff sheets.
Volume changes are shown with dynamic symbols, and tempo is shown in quarter note format. For gradient changes, these symbols appear in the bar after the change event.
Section markers appear as expected, and key signature changes are shown on the staves themselves. Substyle changes are not shown at all, these can be visually edited only in work sheets.
Right-Click Menu
Staff sheets offer a popup menu when you click the right mouse button over them.
This gives you convenient access to some of more useful menu commands.
Printing Staff
Whatever you see in the staff sheet can also be printed using a Staff Sheet report. In fact, the report has more available options for including and ordering tracks.
Changes to printing options are best made using Print Preview, where you can see the effect of each change. The options for the staff sheet and the report are very similar.
