The Staff page appears in the Song Setup property window.
It contains all of the options that control the layout and compilation of staff symbols in Staff View. Some of these options are also available (more conveniently) from the View menu or the staff bar.
A similar page of options appears in the Printing Options for Staff Sheet reports, although there are several differences between the options for screen layout and printing.
Controls
Tracks
Lists all tracks included in the song as bold colored items, and those currently excluded as small gray items.
To ensure synchronization between staff sheets and work sheets, tracks cannot be removed from the staff notation or placed in a different order. This is only possible with the printed Staff Sheet report.
However the options for each track, shown below the list, can be changed.
Volume Changes
This appears for the control track only. Includes master volume symbols in the staff notation. These are indicated as musical dynamics.
Tempo Changes
This appears for the control track only. Includes tempo symbols in the staff notation.
Marker Labels
This appears for the control track only. Includes section marker labels in the staff notation.
Clef
This appears for the Melody, Riff, Rhythm and Bass tracks only. Specifies which type of clef is used for the track. Octave clefs are used as required to fit the track pitches on the stave.
Treble - treble clef only
Bass - bass clef only
Grand - combined bass+treble clef
(auto) - automatically select a treble or bass clef to best fit the notes present in the track
Legers
This appears for the Melody, Riff, Rhythm and Bass tracks only. Specifies the maximum number of leger lines which can be used for the track. Space is reserved for this number of lines throughout the layout.
You can select from 0 Lines to 6 Lines or leave the selection on (auto).
Fit
This appears for the Lyrics, Scales and Chords tracks only. Specifies how these text items are to be placed where they are too large to fit exactly where they should be.
Compress - stay at the correct location, but compress horizontally to fit
Shift - stay at the correct width, but shift horizontally to fit
Both - compress and shift to moderate the effect of both
Slash
This appears for the Chords track only. Specifies how slash chord notation is to be handled.
(none) - don't use it at all
If Specified - use it for chords which have a non-root note specified as the bass pitch in their inversion
If Inversion - use it for chords which produce a non-root note as their bass pitch, whether specifically requested in their inversion, or automatically generated.
Wrap Staves
Specifies whether to layout staff sheets as multiple wrapped systems which scroll vertically, or as a single long stave system which scrolls horizontally.
Use Track Colors
Specifies whether to use track color-coding (as used in work sheets) for the staff symbols. If not, the colors of the staff elements in the Display page are used for the different types of symbols.
Resolution
Controls the time divisions (in fractions of a quarter note) on which segment events are generated into staff symbols for the staff sheet. Smaller fractions show more timing detail, but appear more visually complex.
Short Notes
Specifies what to do with notes of less than half the length of the time division selected in Resolution.
Lengthen - increase their size to the minimum Resolution length.
Ignore - ignore the notes. A count of these is shown in the status bar.
Octaved Notes
Specifies what to do with notes which cannot be fit within the clef and leger lines selected for the track.
Show+Line - shows the notes shifted by an octave to fit, together with a hairline to indicate its original location.
Show - shows the notes shifted by an octave to fit, with no hairline.
Ignore - ignore the notes. A count of these is shown in the status bar.
Stave Size
Controls the overall sizing of the staves, which also influences the sizing of other elements in the layout.
Bar Sizing
Selects whether the stave bars are sized flexibly to accommodate the number of staff symbols in each bar, or whether all bars are fixed at the same size.
Kerning
Only visible for Flexible bar sizing. Controls the horizontal spacing of staff symbols as a percentage of the standard spacing.
Stave Bars
Only visible for Fixed bar sizing. Controls the number of bars on each stave line, from 1/Line to 8/Line.
Track Spacing
Controls the spacing between the tracks within a stave system, as a percentage of the standard spacing.
Line Spacing
Controls the spacing between stave systems, as a percentage of the standard spacing.
Augmentation Dots
Specifies whether augmentation dots can be used to reduce the number of staff symbols required.
Degree Note Names
Specifies how notes should be named on staves when they are part of a chord or key centre. This overrides, for staff compilation, the setting in the Note Names window. Strict Precision naming is not available, to avoid double sharps and flats.
Accidentals Context
Specifies the strategy for naming accidental notes when they are not part of the prevailing key signature.
(none) - use the default note names.
Chords Only - if degrees of the prevailing chord, name them as such, else use defaults.
Scales Only - if degrees of the prevailing scale, name them as such, else use defaults.
Chords, Scales - if degrees of the prevailing chord, else scale, name them as such, else use defaults.
Scales, Chords - as above, but with preference for scales.
Accidentals Spacing
Controls the vertical spacing between accidental symbols where they appear above each other. A Tight spacing can reduce the number of columns of symbols in heavily accidental clusters, but may cause the symbols to touch.
Flag Beaming
Controls how flagged symbols may be joined with beams to improve visual clarity.
(none) - no joining, leaving all clusters separate and flagged.
Sub Bars - join with beams, but split these groupings at internal bar divisions for visual clarity. Divisions depend on the time signature, for example 4/4 bars have a single division in the middle, 9/8 bars are divided into thirds.
Whole Bars - join with beams, extending the groupings throughout the whole bar if possible (groupings may still be broken by non-flag notes, opposite stem direction, or rests).
Bar Numbers
Specifies whether bar numbers should be placed Above or Below the stave or whether they should not appear at all.
Bar Dividers
Specifies how the vertical bar dividers should extend across multiple staves in stave systems. The left end of the system is always joined with a single divider across all staves to show they belong together.
Single Staves - all staves have their bars divided separately (although at the same horizontal locations).
Across Tracks - tracks have their bars divided separately from each other, but the treble and bass staves of a Grand stave within a track are joined.
Across System - all tracks in each stave system are joined with the bar dividers.
Marker Dividers
Specifies whether marker dividers (double bar dividers) are used to indicate the start of each new section.
Track Titles
Specifies how track titles should be shown in staff notation. Each track title has a long (eg. Chords) or short (eg. Ch) form, which is also used in the work sheet.
(none) - track titles are not shown.
Long (All) - long titles are shown on each stave system.
Long (First) - long titles on the first stave system of each page, but not the others.
Short (All) - short titles are shown on each stave system.
Short (First) - short titles on the first stave system of each page, but not the others.
Long/Short - long titles on the first stave system of each page, short titles on the others.
Reset
Resets all settings on the page to their default values.
