The Melody Track usually contains the notes of the melody in the song. It could also be used for other parts of a song, if its special relationship with the Lyrics track is not needed.
Melody segments can hold events, or they can be marked as repeat or autostyle segments to have their content automatically generated.
Segment Sheet
The lines of melody segments are the notes of the chromatic scale, represented as a vertical piano keyboard.
Melody events of various types are placed on these lines to indicate when each note should be played. A melody event cannot span more than one line, but multiple events can be placed vertically to form intervals and chords.
Staff Sheet
The Melody track appears on staff lines in the staff sheet. You can select the clef and leger lines separately for the Melody track, as well as adjust many options which affect how the staff symbols are compiled from events in the song as whole.
Melody Events
There are several different types of melody events, each is created by one of the tools available in melody segments.
• Note - a simple note with no effects.
• Dynamic Note - a note which can vary in strength while playing.
• Slide Note - a note which slides up or down to the correct pitch.
• Vibrato Note - a note with vibrato added for richness.
• Bend Note - a note whose pitch can be bent while playing.
• Note Roll - a series of short notes produced by one event.
• Sustain Note - a note incorporating the use of the sustain pedal.
Melody Setup
The Track Setup window for the Melody track contains the Controls and Note Range pages, which respectively adjust the controllers and the scope of the track (as a pitch range).
Scale Guides
The Melody track can be linked to the Scales track, using the Links page. This provides scale guides in the background of the melody segment to indicate which notes are compatible with the key centres of the song at each location.
This linking can be extended to reharmonizing of the melody notes to accommodate a change in key centre.
