The Note Names window opens when you press the Note Names button in the General page.
It controls how the names of notes are constructed wherever they are presented in the workspace.

Default Names
There are five notes which do not have a name of their own, and can be known by either by adding a sharp (#) to the note below, or a flat (b) to the note above it.
The Default Names area specifies the names to be used for these notes throughout the Songtrix workspace for root notes or notes which are not degrees of a chord or scale.
Degree Note Names
When naming notes which are part of a chord or scale, there are guidelines which state how notes should be named. You can adjust the extent to which these guidelines are enforced, with the following options:
Strict Precision - shows note names in full detail, even where double sharps and flats are used or where equivalent notes without accidentals are possible.
Single Symbol - as for Strict Precision, but note names are adjusted to remove double sharps and flats.
Simplified - as for Single Symbol, but note names are adjusted to remove accidentals where equivalent notes without accidentals are possible.
Default Names - the preferred names selected in Default Names are used regardless of the context.
To illustrate these options, consider the naming of the notes formed by the degrees of the chord F#maj7#5. The notes of the F# Major scale are F#-G#-A#-B-C#-D#-E#.
| maj7#5 | 1 | 3 | #5 | 7 |
| Strict Precision | F# | A# | C## | E# |
| Single Symbol | F# | A# | D | E# |
| Simplified | F# | A# | D | F |
| Default Names | F# | Bb | D | F |
Octave Numbers
Note names repeat within each octave, so if an exact pitch is to be specified, the octave number needs to be added to the note (eg. C#4).
There are two common schemes for assigning octave numbers to pitches, depending on which octave number you give to Middle C. The scheme you select will be used throughout the workspace.
Middle C = C4 - which makes the Midi pitch range (0 to 127) from C-1 to G9.
Middle C = C5 - which makes the Midi pitch range from C0 to G10.
Note Order
Specifies the order in which notes appear in various areas of the workspace, including chord matrix and scale matrix controls and note lists.
Normally, notes are ordered from C to B, but you can override this with your own preference. For example, you may prefer notes to go from A to G#, similar to alphabetical order.
