The New Song process is activated from the workspace with the following command:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+N | File-New Song |
If you press the Shift key when using this command, you bypass the New Song process and a simple 8-bar empty song is created, similar to that contained in each new Songtrix session.
The New Song process guides you through the creation of a new song or style, starting with the page as shown. Underneath are the common process window buttons.
Depending on the Song Type you select, the Options displayed will change, and the process will continue on to the Tracks, Links and Credits settings, which can also be updated later in the Song Setup window.
A Standard song is one intended to be constructed from scratch as an original arrangement. An Autostyle song is one intended to use styles combined with a chord sequence.
There is nothing intrinsically different about either of these song types, they simply begin life configured appropriately for their purpose. For example, an Autostyle song starts with autostyle segments connected to your selected style.
However if you select New Style, you will be creating a style file instead of a song file, and this process is covered in a separate topic.
Controls
Song Type
Specifies the type of song you want to create. This can be either Standard, Autostyle, or New Style, as discussed above.
Style
For Autostyle songs, you can select the style that the song uses to begin with. This can easily be changed later, in the song setup or with the transport bar.
Initially, all tracks of the new song are based on this style, but you can also use mixed styles.
If you make no style selection, Songtrix will use whichever style has been nominated as the default.
Preview Style
Plays a single bar audition of the selected style, to help you decide which one to use.
Time Signature
Specifies the time signature you want to use for your new song, from the many available time signatures. You can change the time signature after the song is created, or insert new bars of a different time signature.
Song Length
Specifies the number of bars to be created in your new song. You can insert new bars or delete bars at any time after the song has been created.
Pickup Length
Specifies whether the new song should have a pickup section, and if so, how many bars to use. This can be changed after the song has been created.
