Most of the tracks can be linked together in Songtrix. This allows them to guide the development, and automatically update the events, of other tracks.
Track links are managed in the Links page of the song setup, and the options vary depending on the types of tracks being linked together. Most links have two strengths.
A weak link displays information about the source track in the linked track to guide your manual development.
A strong link allows updates in the source track to automatically make synchronized updates in the linked track. These can be cascaded between multiple tracks.
Where strong links are fully activated, all tracks of the song can be made subservient to the Chords track. Changing a chord will automatically update all other tracks to suit the new harmony.
Chords to Rhythm
The Chords and Rhythm tracks are implicitly linked together with a strong link, since the Chords track supplies the tones which the rhythm events are based on.
There is also an optional weak link (called Show Chords) which displays the Chords track at the top of rhythm segments to help with navigation during editing. The strong link is present regardless of this option.
Chords to Scales
The Chords and Scales tracks have an optional weak link (called Chord Relations) and strong link (called Auto Select) between them.
Chord Relations causes blue dots to appear in scale matrix controls to indicate which scales are related to the selected chord at each location in the song.
Auto Select causes the Scales track to automatically select a related scale whenever a chord is updated. It also causes the Scales track segments to be automatically split and joined in synchronization with the Chords track.
Scales to Chords
The Scales and Chords track have an optional weak link (called Scale Relations) between them in the other direction.
Scale Relations causes red dots to appear in chord matrix controls to indicate which chords are related to the selected scale at each location in the song.
Scales to Melody
The Scales track has an optional weak link (called Show Scales) and strong link (called Reharmonize) to all three melody tracks (Melody, Riff and Bass).
Show Scales causes scale guides to appear in the background of melody segments to indicate which pitches are part of the key centres at each location in the song. The dark colors indicate the root note of the scale.
Reharmonize causes the events in melody segments to be automatically adjusted (in pitch) when a scale is updated, to suit the harmonic structure of the new key centre.
If this strong link is active, events may be truncated or split if they cross the boundary of the updated scale, depending on the track setting for Change Mode.
Melody to Lyrics
The Melody and Lyrics tracks have a weak link (called Show Melody) and a medium link (called Snap To Notes) between them.
Show Melody causes the events in the Melody track to be shown at the top of lyric segments to help align the lyric text events.
Snap To Notes causes the lyric text cursor to automatically locate to the start of adjacent melody events when the Left and Right arrow or Tab keys are pressed. This makes the correct placement of lyric text much easier.
