A major feature in Songtrix is the ability for tracks to be split into segments of shorter lengths. Short segments can also be joined together to make larger segments.
Harmony Tracks
For harmony tracks, such as the Chords or Scales tracks, each chord or scale is stored in a different segment. Harmony segments can be resized to any length (in minimum units of Qtn/6) by stretching.
Harmony tracks can use repeat segments, which instead of storing a chord or scale, simply repeat the value in the previous segment.
Event Tracks
For event tracks, segments can cover any whole span of bars, but cannot be split within a bar. The only exception is the Lyrics track, which always consists of a single segment covering the whole track.
The power of track segments becomes apparent when you start to use repeat segments, which automatically contain a copy of the events in the previous segment.
These are especially effective with the Rhythm and Drums tracks, which often use a high level of musical repetition. If a rhythm is created in a segment, it can be effortlessly extended into subsequent bars (or the whole song).
This example shows a single bar pattern being repeated, but it can be just as easily achieved with a pattern length of two, four or more bars, for a more subtle repetition.
Melody, Riff and Bass tracks can also be divided into event segments and repeat segments, with the additional option of the repeat events being reharmonized to suit the chords or scales present in the song at their new location.
