Segments can be split into multiple smaller segments in Mixer View or Track View, using the following command:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+I | Segment-Split |
This command acts on all segments in the selected range of the work sheet. All segments are split separately, but the split step performed depends on the selection and the current configuration of the range. If a step is already done, then the next step will be performed.
Split steps are best described with an example, such as the following segment, which occupies the whole track. The selected range includes Bars 3, 4 and 5 within of the segment.
Step 1 - Split Left
The first time the split command is used, the segment is split on the left side of the selection.
Step 2 - Split Right
If there is already a segment border on the left side of the selection, then the segment is split on the right side.
Step 3 - Split Into Bars
If there is already a segment border on the left and right side of the selection, then the segment is split on all internal bar boundaries.
Step 4 - Split Halves
For harmony segments only, the process can be carried one step further to split the segments into sizes smaller than a bar. This step can be repeated until all selected segments are at the minimum size (1/6 of a quarter note).
Segment Content
When an event segment is split, the events are distributed to the smaller segments according to their location (starting point) in the original segment. This may truncate some events, which are limited in length to the duration of the segment.
When a harmony segment is split, both smaller segments contain the chord or scale stored in the original segment.
When a repeat segment is split, both smaller segments are also repeat segments, but the virtual events (if any) of the original span may be affected.
When an autostyle segment is split, both smaller segments are also autostyle segments, but this does not affect the virtual events generated.
