Manuals

The Stretch page appears in the Stretch Track property window (invoked by Track-Stretch) together with the Selection page, which specifies the range of the song to adjust.

It also appears in the Adjust Events property window, invoked from segment sheets, when Stretch is selected in the Operation page.

The Stretch operation moves events by a fixed ratio relative to the starting point of the selected range, and can also resize them by the same ratio.

The ratio can be either enlarging or reducing, to perform either a stretch or shrink effect.

This operation is important for manually transferring sections of a complex song between meters with a different time base, since the Convert Meter window can only be used where an entire song uses the same meter.

It is also useful for resizing the durations of events only, to create a more staccato or legato effect.

The bar structure of a song is unaffected by the Stretch operation.  Only the events, chords and scales in the song are stretched within it, and if any are stretched beyond the end of the song, they are discarded.

Controls

Stretch By Ratio

The To and From fields indicate the ratio by which locations and durations are to be stretched or shrunk.  By default they are filled with the Ticks Per Qtn setting of the song.

In the example pictured above, the range will be stretched by a ratio from 144 to 72, so all events will become half the duration and occur twice as fast.

If the same value appears in both fields, no action can be taken, and the OK button in the property window is disabled.

Apply To Locations

Specifies that the locations of events are to be stretched by the ratio specified, relative to the starting location of the range.

Shift Tail

If Apply To Locations is specified and the range does not extend to the end of the song, the stretch operation may create a gap or an overlap with the events and segments following the range.

The Shift Tail option specifies that you want the any part of the song following the selected range to be shifted, so that it remains exactly aligned with the new, stretched size of the range.

Apply To Durations

Specifies that the durations of events are to be stretched by the ratio specified.

At Segment Limits

Specifies what should happen to events whose location would be adjusted beyond the start or end of their segment.

Limit Events - move the events hard up against the start or end of the segment.  This may cause noticeable timing aberrations.

Wrap Events - wrap events around to the start or end of the same segment.  This is appropriate for repetitive patterns, such as in rhythm or drum segments.

Delete Events - delete the events.  Their absence may be noticeable.

Transfer Events - transfer the events to the prior or next segment.  If that is a repeat or autostyle segment, it is converted to a standard segment first, so it can accept the transferred event.
