Each track type can contain a variety of different event types, which are created with the corresponding segment tool when working in segment sheets.
By default, the Selection Tool (the simple pointer) is active when you open a segment sheet. This can select, unselect, move, and stretch existing events. The other tools are for creating new events of each type.
You can edit the properties of events after they have been created. Properties appear for the selected event(s) in the Event Properties table at the right of segment sheets. Properties vary for different event types but some (such as location and duration) are common to all.
For convenience, you can specify the default properties to be used when an event is created. If a segment tool is active with no events selected, the properties table has the caption Tool Defaults instead.
These properties, which can be changed, are applied to each new event as it is created. The default properties displayed vary depending on the tool selected, but they are all shared by the event types of each track.
