As an alternative to editing segment events with your computer keyboard and mouse, Songtrix offers the option of recording events from a Midi instrument (such as a piano keyboard) attached to the Midi Input device.
The record function captures the musical events you are sending via Midi, but not the actual audio sound of these events. This approach retains the same editing flexibility that is found throughout Songtrix.
Captured events are placed into segments just as if you had manually created them, and can be edited afterwards to correct mistakes, or played with a different voice by changing the track setup.
While the most common Midi instrument in use is the piano keyboard, there are other possibilities, including Midi guitars, Midi trumpets and Midi drums, which can work equally well.
As well as Note On and Note Off events, the record function can also capture the most important Midi controllers, including Pitch Bend, Modulation Wheel and Sustain events, automatically blending them into the advanced event types based on these effects.
Recording events is a very convenient way to enter them into your song if you are an accomplished player. Even if you are not, there are several features that can help you make use of this facility.
You can adjust the tempo that is used during recording, which is helpful if you can't play reliably at the full speed of the song.
When recording melody events, you can use the link to the Scales track to automatically correct any played notes that are not compatible with key centre. Or you can transpose keyboard input if needed to avoid difficult key signatures.
When recording rhythm events, you can play sophisticated chord progressions without knowing a single chord formation, simply by keeping your fingers on the same set of keys.
When recording drum events, you can layer different drum patterns one at a time to create rich and realistic drum kit rhythms.
