The Record Options window is opened from the Record Segment, Record Chord and Record Scale windows.
It allows you to configure the way in which events are captured from the Midi Input device (usually connected to a piano keyboard) during these recording processes. Other options are available for the Midi Input device itself.
The settings displayed in this window vary according to the type of track being recorded. These differences are also described separately for recording melody, rhythm, drum, chord and scale segments.
Controls
Keyboard
Midi piano keyboards come in variety of different octave ranges, from 5 to 8 octaves and higher. They are often arranged as full octaves (from C to B) but sometimes include partial octaves at either end.
With the From and To controls, you can select the lowest and highest pitch on your keyboard, so that Songtrix knows which keys you physically have available to be mapped to segment lines for the events you are recording.
These settings also ensure the piano display for recording shows your actual keyboard layout correctly.
If you are using the Qwerty Keyboard device provided by Songtrix for your Midi input, these two controls are disabled, since the range of this input device is fixed from C4 to E6.
Melody Input
Melody segments have Key Mapping and Enforce Scale options that determine how your physical keys are translated to segment lines. These are explained separately.
Rhythm Input
Rhythm segments have Key Mapping and Start Key options that determine how your physical keys are translated to segment lines. These are explained separately.
Drums Input
Rhythm segments have Key Mapping and Start Key options that determine how your physical keys are translated to segment lines. These are explained separately.
Chord Input
Chord segments have the Capture option that specifies how long keys must be held down. This is explained separately.
Scale Input
Scale segments have the Capture option that specifies how long keys must be held down. This is explained separately.
Tempo
You can adjust the tempo that is used during recording and playback of the segment. This is very helpful if you can't play reliably at the full speed of the song. This setting is also available directly in the Record Segment window.
The tempo adjustment can vary from 50% to 150% (in 5% increments) of the true tempo of the song.
Metronome
Specifies whether you want the metronome audible during recording or playback to help you keep time.
(off) - never play the metronome.
Record - include the metronome in recording, but not playback.
Playback - include metronome in playback, but not recording.
Always - include the metronome in both recording and playback.
Count Off
Specifies how many bars of count off to play before recording starts, to help get your timing correct. You can select (none), 1 Bar or 2 Bars of count off.
Transport
Spare keys on the your piano keyboard which are not allocated to segment lines can be used for the Record, Record Loop, Play and Clear transport controls.
With these controls, you can record, stop recording, replay or clear the captured events, without having to leave the piano keyboard. Once you have a capture you are happy with, you can return to the computer to store it and continue editing the song.
If you are using the Qwerty Keyboard device provided by Songtrix for your Midi input, this control is disabled, since its range is limited and the regular transport shortcut keys can be used instead.
There are several schemes that can be used for assigning spare keys to these transport commands, depending on availability, but they always appear together as a group:
Auto/Auto - any spare keys at either end of the keyboard.
Lower/Auto - any spare keys at the lower end of the keyboard.
Upper/Auto - any spare keys at the upper end of the keyboard.
Lower/White - white keys only at the lower end of the keyboard.
Upper/White - white keys only at the upper end of the keyboard.
Lower/Chrom - adjacent chromatic keys at the lower end of the keyboard.
Upper/Chrom - adjacent chromatic keys at the upper end of the keyboard.
Enable Multitone Events
For rhythm segments only, permits separate events from the keys of the piano keyboard to be automatically joined into events that cover multiple tone lines if their timing makes them compatible with each other.
Usually compatible timing can only be achieved when Snap To Grid is active during recording.
Preview
As you make changes to the Keyboard, Key Mapping and Transport settings, a preview of the keyboard mapping for the current track is shown.
This is the same display you would see in the recording window.
Reset
Resets all settings in the window to their default values.
OK
Accepts changes to the settings and returns to the recording window to apply them.
Cancel
Returns to the recording window without making any changes to the settings.
