The process of recording events to drum segments involves most of the standard recording controls and options.

However there are a few aspects which are specific to recording drum events.

Record Loop

Recording complex drum rhythms is a good example of how the Record Loop function can be used.  A typical drum rhythm may include several drum sounds, each with their own rhythm pattern, which contributes to the whole.

Whether the drum patterns are recorded from a Midi keyboard or Midi drums, it can be very convenient to have the record process constantly looping so that you can concentrate on the rhythm pattern of one drum, or of one drum group at a time.

In this way you can build the complete drum rhythm in manageable layers.

Key Mapping

If a Midi keyboard is to be mapped to the drum sounds, the actual choice of keys is quite arbitrary, and you can choose whichever feels most comfortable.

The Key Mapping and Start Key options, found in the Record Options window, offer several arrangements for mapping the sounds in the drum kit across the piano keys.

Direct Midi - uses the event pitches as they are received in the Midi Input.  In this case, some segment lines may not be accessible, depending on the Midi instrument and drum kit, but it may be best choice if you are using Midi drums.

All Keys - lays out the drum sounds on black and white keys, beginning with the Start Key.

White Key - lays out the drum sounds on white keys only, beginning with the Start Key.

Black Keys - lays out the drum sounds on black keys only, beginning with the Start Key.
