When using Songtrix, you will mostly be storing your work in ChordWizard Song files. This native file format has many advantages.
It can store all of the properties and events of your song, including the song setup, chords, scales, and the staff layout, and it retains the high-level structure of the song for future editing.
It can also be optionally protected for publishing, to restrict changes that can be made, or disable operations like printing, copying or changing credits.
However there are other file formats which you may be starting with, or wish to produce. Foremost among these is the Midi file.
The Midi file has been around since the mid-1980s, and despite its limitations of no security and low-level event storage (eg. no chords), there are thousands of them on the internet and elsewhere.
Songtrix can open Midi files with the Import Midi process, which guides you through several steps as it is converted into a song.
You can also save your songs as Midi files, using the Export Song process. This allows you to compose your song within the rich creative environment of Songtrix, and then transfer it to audio production software to add vocals, acoustic instruments and effects for final mastering.
If you don't need to add extra audio tracks or effects, you can also directly master your song to a WAV file (for burning to CDs) or an MP3 file (for MP3 players) also using the Export Song process.
