Manuals

The MID File Options page appears as the second step of the Export Song process, when you have selected to export a MID File in the first step.

It offers a variety of configurations for exporting the song to Midi files.  You can transfer these to other software or hardware devices, or feed them into audio production software for a final mix.

The two main choices are:

Single File - each song track is exported to a channel or track within a single Midi file, which will by default, use the song title for its filename (for example, My Song.mid).

Multiple Files - each song track is exported to a Midi file of its own, which will use the track title for the filename (for example, Melody.mid,Riff.mid, etc).

The multiple files option is for the benefit of audio production software, which is often designed to access each of its Midi tracks in a separate file.

Controls

File Format

Specifies the configuration of the Midi files to export.

Single SMF-0 - exports to a single Format 0 file.  All song tracks are combined into one Midi track in a single file, using different channels.

Single SMF-1 - exports to a single Format 1 file.  Each song track is output to a separate Midi track in a single file, using different channels.

Multiple SMF-0 - exports to multiple Format 0 files.  Each song track is output a separate Midi file, which is named after the track.

Destination Files

If you are exporting a single file, its name and location is shown here.

If you are exporting multiple files, the name and location of each file is listed here.  All files will be in the same folder, and each filename is based on the title of its track.

Browse

If you are exporting a single file, opens a File Save window, where you can select the name and location of the MID file to export.

If you are exporting multiple files, opens a Select Folder window where you can select the location for the exported MID files to be placed in.

Control Track

Specifies whether to include the Control track in the export.  This contains the bar structure, tempo and master volume changes, time signatures and key signatures.

Depending on your purpose for the exported files, some audio production software defines its own control structure, and prefers not have it included with the musical events.

Master Volume

Specifies which Midi controllers should be used to implement master volume in the exported Midi file(s).

Sys Ex - Uses the Master Volume system exclusive message.  This is the simplest method, but some devices do not support it.

Expression - Uses the Expression controller for each track.  This will be automatically mixed together with any Expression controllers from the events in your song.

Chan Volume - Uses the Channel Volume controller for each track.  This will be automatically mixed together with the track levels in your song.

File Suffix

This option is available for multiple file export only.  It specifies a suffix digit to be added to end of each Midi filename, for example a File Suffix=1 would produce files Melody1.mid, Riff1.mid, etc.

This is useful if you are exporting files to audio production software.  You can then use two or more songs for the same piece of music, to access many more simultaneous tracks.

The tracks of each song can be exported with a different File Suffix, and then linked separately into the final audio project.

In this case it will be important to ensure that all part-songs have identical timing parameters (including bar structure, tempo, tempo changes, and Prefix Ticks) to ensure their correct synchronization in the final audio project.
