The Change Style window is opened from the workspace using the style drop-list on the transport bar
or with the following commands:
Menu
Song-Change Style
Track-Change Style
It allows you select and audition any of the available styles, and control how they are applied to the song. Selecting styles has the effect of generating style events in any autostyle segments in the affected tracks.
If you open this window with Song-Change Style, the Apply To setting is locked to All Tracks. If you open it with Track-Change Style, this setting is locked to the current track only.
Controls
Style
Allows you to select the style you want to apply. This list contains all of the standard styles, as well as any additional styles you may have installed or downloaded from the ChordWizard Network.
If no style is selected, many of the other controls in this window will be disabled.
Test Style
Plays an audition of the selected style. Auditions may also happen automatically when the Style list selection is changed.
If Apply To is set to All Tracks, a sample of the full style arrangement is played, otherwise the style part for the selected track is played solo.
Details
Opens a popup box showing key details of the selected style, including the filename, the author, the tempo, the parts included, and an assessment of whether the style has predominantly swing or straight timing.
Note that most styles specifically do not contain a Melody part, since it is assumed you will be supplying this in your song.
Apply To
Specifies whether the style will be applied to all tracks in the song, or just to the track that had the focus when the window was opened.
Track Only - the style is applied only to the current track. This offers great variety by allowing a combination of styles to be used in the song.
All Tracks - the style is used for all tracks. This is the easiest mode to use and the default for new songs.
Make Autostyle
The selection of a style will have no effect unless there are some autostyle segments in the affected tracks to receive the generated style events.
These options helps by offering to convert any existing repeat or empty segments in these tracks as part of the same operation.
Not all tracks will be converted, depending on the selection of Apply To and the parts present in the selected style. For example, segments in the Melody track are rarely converted, since most styles do not include a Melody part as mentioned above.
If you are using styles, but have specifically chosen to put repeat or empty segments in various places of your song, you will need to unselect these options, to ensure your arrangement is not disturbed.
Update
The options here determine which properties of the style are transferred to the song. To begin with, it is helpful to enable all of them, so the selected style is rendered as closely as possible to how it was intended.
But once you start to make your own custom adjustments to your song that override the style settings, you may wish to unselect some of them, so that your changes are not lost the next time the style changes.
There are three areas of properties than can be controlled separately.
Song Settings - Specifies whether the song is updated with the same master volume, master tempo, staff resolution and bar sizing settings that the style was designed with. Where Apply To is set to Track Only, the song may be using several styles, so this option is disabled.
Track Setup - Specifies whether the track is updated with the same setup (voice, level, reverb, etc) as the source track in the style, to retain the same sound it was designed with.
Track Scope - Specifies whether the track is updated with the same scope (note range, drum kit, etc) as the source track in the style, to retain the same range (or drums) it was designed with.
OK
Closes the window and applies your selected style to the song or current track, together with any updates you have specified using the options described above.
Cancel
Returns to the workspace without making any change.
