The Notes To Chords tool can be accessed from the workspace in the following ways:
| Button | Menu |
| Tools-Notes To Chords |
It appears as shown below, and allows you to identify which chords contain the set of notes you select.
If you select a range from the Melody, Riff or Bass tracks before you open this tool, any notes within it will be automatically selected. If you don't want them, you can use the Clear Notes button as your first action.
If you select a cell from the Chords track before you open this this tool, the Close button will be replaced by Cancel and Update buttons, which will insert the selected chord into that cell.
Obviously you cannot use both of these at once, but you can come close if you select your initial notes first, then use the Copy button to transfer the selected result back to the song.
Controls
Notes
The notes of the octave are shown as buttons arranged in a circle, emphasizing the cyclic nature of the octave.
Each button can be pressed to include the note, or released to remove the note from the set. The example above has the notes A, C and E included.
Clear Notes
Removes all selected notes from the set. Provides a quicker way to reset your input than releasing each button separately.
Play Notes
Auditions the sound of the selected notes, played together.
Chords
As the notes are included or removed, the set is analyzed to find the matching chords. These are placed into the list, with the closest match at the top.
As each chord is selected, degree labels appear within the circle of notes, indicating how each note contributes to its formation. The example above has A=1, C=b3 and E=5, because Am is the selected chord.
For each chord, the notes of any degrees missing from the set are indicated.
Copy Chord
Copies the selected chord to the clipboard, where it is available to be pasted into the song, once you return to the workspace.
Relations of Chord
Opens the Relations window so you can explore which scales are related to the selected chord.
Play Chord
Auditions the sound of the selected chord. This can be compared with the sound of the notes.
Enforce Required Degrees
Excludes chords from the list whose required degrees are not present in the set of notes.
Removing the tick from this option will result in a longer list of lower grade matching chords, but it may be useful to explore the full set of chords containing your notes.
Close/Cancel
Closes the window and returns to the workspace.
Update
Insert the selected chord in the Chords list into the song at the current cell.
