The Relations tool can be accessed from the workspace in the following ways:
| Button | Menu |
| Tools-Relations |
It appears as shown below, and allows you to explore which scales and chords are related to each other.
When you open this tool, if your workspace range includes chords in the Chords track, or scales in the Scales track, these will be automatically selected, activating Allow Multiple Selection if necessary.
Controls
Scales
This scale matrix allows you to select a scale, and uses blue dots to indicate which are related to the chord selected in the Chords matrix. The name of the selected scale is shown above the matrix.
If Allow Multiple Selection is active (see below), you can hold down the Shift key to select multiple scales, and the dots are replaced with numbers to indicate how many of the selected chords each scale is related to.
Copy Scale
Copies the selected scale to the clipboard, where it is available to be pasted into the song, once you return to the workspace.
Play Scale
Auditions the sound of the selected scale. This can be compared to the sound of the selected chord.
Chords
This chord matrix allows you to select a chord, and uses red dots to indicate which are related to the scale selected in the Scales matrix. The name of the selected chord is shown above the matrix.
If Allow Multiple Selection is active (see below), you can hold down the Shift key to select multiple chords, and the dots are replaced with numbers to indicate how many of the selected scales each chord is related to.
Copy Chord
Copies the selected chord to the clipboard, where it is available to be pasted into the song, once you return to the workspace.
Play Chord
Auditions the sound of the selected chord. This can be compared to the sound of the selected scale.
Allow Multiple Selection
Switches between single-select or multi-select mode. When ticked, multiple chords and scales can be selected in the matrix controls at the same time by holding down the Shift key.
In this case, the dots in both the Chords and Scales matrix are replaced with numbers to indicate how many of the other's multiple selection each cell is related to.
Show Sizes
Adds a number in square bracket to the headings in both the chord and scale matrix, indicating how many degrees there are in each chord or scale type.
For example, you would see maj [3] in the Chords matrix or Major [7] in the Scales matrix.
Close
Closes the window and returns to the workspace or the window which opened it.
