The Extract Chord Rhythm page appears in the Import Midi process (and the Exchange Tracks process) when the Ch + Rh (Chords and Rhythm) tracks are selected as a destination.
It manages and previews the conversion of melody events into rhythm events combined with a chord sequence.
The process works most effectively when the source track is a simple chordal accompaniment. For melodic or complex parts, not all notes can be fit into the more restrictive harmonic structure of the output, and some will be dropped.
There are several facilities to manage the extraction operation. You can preview and audition the results and make adjustments to the Import Options until you are satisfied.
Controls
Work Sheet
The source and destination tracks in the extraction operation both appear in the familiar work sheet format.
The source track(s) appears in plain colors, and the destination Chords and Rhythm tracks are shown in standard track colors below them. The state of these two destination tracks is exactly what you will get in the song at the end of the process.
The source track(s) are labeled with their track name and/or channel number, but due to limited text size, some labels may have their leading characters truncated.
You can scroll the work sheet horizontally to examine each part of the song, and click on a cell in either source of destination tracks to audition the events in it, just as in the workspace.
Log
At the top left is the count of notes in the source tracks which could not be accommodated in the extraction process and were dropped. This is shown in the picture above as Dropped Notes : 0.
Any dropped notes may affect the overall sound of the passage. You may wish to investigate further by pressing the Log button to open the Extract Chords Log window.
This contains a detailed listing of notes dropped from the source tracks during the extraction, and may help to explain unexpected results.
Import Midi Options
Many issues occurring in the extraction process can be corrected by pressing this button to open the Extract Chord Options window.
This contains several options which change the way the extraction operation is performed. By updating one or more options, you can execute this operation again to get more satisfactory results.
Go To Start
Moves the focus cell in the work sheet to the first bar of the song.
Play All
Starts playback of the destination tracks beginning at the focus bar. Playback continues until the end of the song is reached, or until terminated by this or the Stop button.
Play Source Track(s)
Starts playback of the source track(s) beginning at the focus bar. Playback continues until the end of the song is reached, or until terminated by this or the Stop button.
There may be one or more source tracks. Playing them separately allows you to compare the input and output of the extraction operation for any significant differences in sound.
Stop
Terminates any playback mode that may be active.
