The Scale Types page appears in the Workspace Options property window.
In addition to the controls shown below, there are extra buttons common to all property windows
Songtrix includes an extensive list of standard scale types, and you can modify these with the Scale Types page. Beginners may wish to deactivate all but the basic scale types. Advanced players may wish to add their own custom scale types.
Songtrix allows you to add an unlimited number of new scale types, or to rename and adjust standard scale types, integrating the changes seamlessly into all operations.
| With Songtrix Silver and Bronze Editions, which are designed for Beginner or Intermediate level, only a limited set of scale types are supplied, and they cannot be extended. However unlimited scale types are supported with Songtrix Gold Edition. |
The workspace scale types on this page are available to new songs exactly as listed. However, once a scale has been used in a song, a copy of its scale type is stored with the song, and this can be modified independently with the Scales Used page.
While a song remains open, the scale types stored with it override the equivalent workspace scale types. This ensures that any dependencies the song has on custom or modified scale types are respected wherever the song file is opened.
Controls
Scale Types
The Scale Types list is the main feature in the Scale Types page. It has one row for each scale type that is defined. The list has two columns, for the Name of the scale types, and for their Degrees.
Activate
Activates the selected scale type, so that it will be available throughout the workspace, in scale matrix controls and other situations where scale types are listed. Active scale types appear in black text.
The top-right of the Scale Types list indicates how many scale types are active out of the total number. In the picture above, this is (7/36 active).
Deactivate
Deactivates the selected scale type, so that it will not appear anywhere in the workspace, unless it is used by the current song. Inactive scale types appear in gray text.
Move Up
Moves the selected scale type up one place in the list. Scale types appear in this order wherever they are used throughout the workspace.
Move Down
Moves the selected scale type down one place in the list.
New
Opens the New Scale Type window, where you can create a custom scale type to add to the list.
Custom scale types are marked in the Scale Types list with a small dot at the left of their name.
Edit
Opens the Edit Scale Type window, where you can make changes to properties of the selected scale type.
You can modify both custom and standard scale types, although there are some restrictions on what changes can be made to the latter.
Delete
Deletes the selected scale type from the list, so that it will not appear anywhere in the workspace.
Note that you can only delete custom scale types. If you want to get rid of a standard scale type, you should deactivate it instead.
Play Scale Type
Auditions the sound of the selected scale type.
Reset
Opens the Reset Scale Types window, where you can selectively reset aspects of the scale types in the list back to the default state of the standard scale types.
