The Selection page appears in the Printing Options property window for all report types.
It allows you to control which content appears in your reports. You can use either of two mechanisms for selecting the content.
You can simply use the current filter setting to specify what you want to print. In this case, the content of your report will closely reflect the focus of your current activity in the workspace.
For example, in Library View the chordshapes appearing in the Library List will be the same chordshapes printed in a Chord Book report. Or in Scales View, the scale positions you are exploring will be the same positions that appear in a Scale Chart report.
Only the Chord Book report makes full use of the filter setting. Relations and Scale Chart reports use only the chord or scale criteria in a filter to restrict the content of reports.
Alternatively, you can override the filter setting and make your own custom selection for the report, using the controls in the Selection page. Flexible multiple selections are possible.
The current selection is indicated with a description at the bottom of the Selection page. It is prefixed with Filter, Chords or Scales to indicate the mechanism you are using. This same description can appear in the report banner or page footers of the report.
Controls
Use Filter Setting
This option specifies whether to use the workspace filter setting to determine your selection, or whether you will make a custom selection with the matrix.
If ticked, you will be using the filter setting, and the Chord/Scale Matrix is disabled.
Select Chords/Scales
These options specify whether you want to use chord or scale group headings.
They are both available only for Relations reports. Chord Book reports can only use chord group headings, and Scale Chart reports can only use scale group headings.
Chord/Scale Matrix
The matrix allows you to make a custom selection for the content of your report, and is the main feature of the Selection page. Whether is appears as a chord or scale matrix depends on what is specified for Select Chords/Scales.
Each cell in the matrix represents the chord or scale based on the chord or scale type in the row heading and the root note in the column heading.
The illustration above demonstrate a multiple selection. The chord matrix has selected all m chords, plus C#maj and Ebmaj.
You can select an entire row or column by clicking in its heading. You can make a multiple selection by holding down the Shift key for each additional area you want to select.
Reset
Resets all settings in the Selection page to the system defaults. Essentially this results in Use Filter Setting becoming the selection mechanism and any custom selection being lost.
