Hi Leigh,

You'll need to make up your own progressions, but Songtrix can help by letting you sample the different chord sounds available.  Try this to begin with:

File-New Song
Autostyle type
Style = Jazz 1
Next-Next-Finish

A starting point for your song has now been created.  Switch to Track View and select the default Cmaj chord in the first bar.  For the first four bars, try the following sequence:

Cmaj9-Dm9-G13-Cmaj9

Then play it.  These chord types are only available at Advanced level, you may need to use Options-Workspace-Chord Types-Reset if they are not showing.

You can try the other styles, and enter other chords as you like.  There are not many styles with the beta version and some are a bit rough, but they will be much more choice by the time of release.

You can use Tools-Relations to make sure that all the chords you select are compatible with the scale you have chosen for your key.  For more info, see:

I'm new here and this chord progression generation discussion has been a starting point for me. Thanks for that however, when I try adding four different chords I run into a problem. While in track view, I added the Cmaj9 in the first bar, selected the second bar and selected the Dm9 but, the chord in the first bar changed from Cmaj9 to Dm9 and nothing appeared in the second bar.  What am I missing?

Sounds like the area of the Chords track you are working with has a single chord segment covering both bars.

Try selecting the second bar, use Segment-Split to create separate segments that can hold different chords in each bar.
