Great Stuff

I've had this application for one week ... and I must say that this app is the most "composer friendly" app I've yet used.  I'm a veteran of tools like Jammer Pro 6 and and Onyx Orchestrator ... both are good tools ... but you guys have obviously put a lot of thought into making harmonic flexibility intuitive "on the fly".  The "workflow" is superb.  The ability to MIDI record into the chords track with concern only on the rhythm is "off the chain".  Plus, I love the concept of the different note and chord events ... you obviously looked at the controllers that are the most musically relevant ... well done.  That strum tool is awesome ... I was thinking that I would have to write a script in Cubase's logical editor to emulate strums ... what a pain !!

If there is anything I would "gripe" about, it would be the "lacK' of tracks.  I would love to have at least one more rhythm track ... and I would think you could support many riff tracks without mulitplying the code complexity exponentially.  Or ... you could consider implementing MIDI Program Change support within the existing tracks.  That being said, I would also implore you to never feel like you have to support audio rendering (to include VSTI support, etc.) more than you do already.  This is an outstanding MIDI TOOL ... not a DAW !!  It is a simple matter to export MIDI into a DAW (I love Cubase !!) ... strip off any unwanted SysEx ... and go from there.

Enough rambling ... I am currently importing some tunes I had laying around for a couple of years and am using them to get familiar with SongTrix ... I should have some stuff ready to upload to the network soon ... so you can see what a horrible composer I am !!!

ChordWizard Support

Hi Jim, welcome and thanks for your enthusiasm!  It's great to hear when people can appreciate the spirit and benefits of Songtrix that we've worked so hard to achieve!

Songtrix is designed to be as simple and user-friendly as possible, which is why we kept the number of tracks to the absolute minimum.

The underlying sequencing engine is capable of many more, and we have plans for a "big brother" of Songtrix which will support multiple sections and up to 32 tracks of various types.  It will be correspondingly complex to navigate, which is why we wanted to get Songtrix out first.  No target date on this yet, though.

It's true that it's easy to export to a DAW via Midi files, and we don't have any plans as yet to support audio tracks.  But we would like to provide a richer native sound palette within Songtrix than is currently available with the default Microsoft Synthesizer.

Sure, some people have their own hardware synths or sound cards, but the majority don't and only have access to the default synth which is adequate, but limited compared to the universe of sounds available through VST instruments.

You'd be surprised how often people mistake the role of the application and the synth and judge Songtrix by the quality of the sounds that it produces.

Looking forward to hearing the songs you upload - I'm guessing they may not be as bad as you are suggesting!

Actually, you can hear a couple of them right away ... if you've got absolutely nothing better to do ... LOL!  I posted a couple if them up on a MySpace page a couple of years ago.  The URL is ;

There are 2 tunes ... "Around The Corner" and "Last Time Down" ... I imported "Around The Corner" into SongTrix right after I got my liscense key and I'm using it to get familiar with SongTrix.  Give them a listen and let me know what you think ... be easy on me though ... the mixing is horrible, I know, but that's a whole other "art" I need to learn.

A big brother to SongTrix ?  Suffice it to say I cannot wait !!!
