How to find chords for music

Hello,
I am new to Chordwizard. I just purchased Songtrix Gold yesterday.
Back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, I played chords on the guitar and would sing along. It has been so long ago, I have forgotten the typical chords used for a song, like C, G, and F (I think). I really only knew a few chords anyway.
Anyway, I have manually programmed sheet music into various software programs in the last few decades. I typically only have the notes for 4 part harmony voices. I would like to add some chords to this and cannot determine what chord goes with the notes being sung. Is there a way to figure this out? This probably doesn't need a video, but can you point me where to look or how to figure this out?
I am able to import my "midi" files into Songtrix, but now I don't know what chord would harmonize or complement the "voice" notes.
Thanks,
Dennis2000
Hi Dennis,
Finding chords for music is a bit of black art, and there are no reliable hard-and-fast rules.
The first step is to work out what key your songs are in, and Songtrix can help here with the Notes To Scales tool.
If you select the melody areas of the worksheet and open this tool, the notes will be preselected, and you can see the best candidates for the scale.
Then you can use this scale to help narrow down which chords are likely to work best.
We actually do have a video on this process under production at the moment. Hope to release it with the next batch of video tours in the next couple of weeks.
Watch out for our next email announcement, which we'll send when these are available.
In the meantime, I suggest you read through the Chord and Scale Relations section in How Music Works in Tutorials view of Songtrix to get a good background.
