VSTi or DXi or soundfont support?

Having the ability to load synths like Cakewalk (Roland) TTS-1 would greatly enhance the midi experience. Band-in -a-box supports this feature and I use it constantly.
We'll certainly get there at some point. I'm not sure if this will be in the first main release, or a subsequent update.
Are there any other votes for support of VST and DXi?
I wouldn't see it as real high priority for VSTI or DXI. I suspect power users like Jeff will be exporting the final product of Chord Wizard into Sonar anyhow.
I still can't figure out the sound fonts in sonar. I just tell my sound card which sound font set to use. I just hate to see things get real complicated.
Good point - I always add effects, soundfonts, etc. in Sonar after exporting the initial song progression from BnB. I agree this is a nice to have, but not high priority.
I'd count VSTi as something of necessity. These days, VSTi support in expected any serious MIDI app. There are now scores of v. good quality freeware intruments out there to play with. It could work out very well with is app, given its refreshing approch to MIDI production in general.
Thanks. Yes, we are planning for expand support in Songtrix to cover these alternative midi output systems, either in the main release or shortly afterwards as an update.
I for one, get weary of exporting from program to program to get a final product. Songtrix works well with the exception of using custom sound fonts. I read in another songtrix forum that the designers are concerned with portability when collaborating with other users. Perhaps a soundfont "attachment" utility might work? When you send a file to someone, check a box and the fonts go with it?
Jim.
This would be great idea. I'm not sure how feasible it is in practice. A quality soundfont file can be several megabytes.
What we are considering is shipping our own midi softsynth (probably soundfont based) with Songtrix at a future point so that there is always a common sound platform that can be depended on for getting mixes consistent on the destination machine.
We're also still keen to allow access to VSTi and DXi.
Both of these would be added as updates sometime after the initial release (currently targeting August).
count me in,all the way....the Window synth is too outdated.
VSTi and DXi are pretty much the norm, nowadays. I actually wrote a similar post before seeing your one
It's our next big project after the Songtrix videos.
We are planning to do a major extension of the sound generation engine in Songtrix to support ASIO and VSTi, which will give it access to a much greater range of synth voices and better responsiveness.
Microsoft has deprecated the DirectX sound interface, and DXi instruments never achieved the same popularity as VSTi instruments, so it's unlikely that we will include support for these.
As I mentioned, the videos are our first priority, but we are hoping to have the VST project well underway and possibly ready for beta testing by the end of 2011.
Will keep you posted with announcements as we progress.
