Manuals

There are three steps involved in publishing a song or style on the ChordWizard Network, and the method is the same for either type of file.

If you are using Network View within the workspace, both of the first two steps occur within the Upload Song process, which is started with Network-Upload.

Otherwise, they occur separately, with the Package Song process creating a file to be uploaded with a standard browser.

Packaging

The first step is to prepare your file for publication, and optionally apply protection and a publisher link.  This is achieved with the Package Song process.

Preparation involves removing structures you may have used to develop the song to give it a cleaner look, and ensuring that it plays and looks the same on other computers as it does on yours.

Protection involves encrypting the file and disabling operations which are normally available for editing or extracting content from a song.

Publisher links can be added to songs so that they visibly attribute their origin to your ChordWizard Network member account, and allow you to be easily contacted.

Uploading

Uploading is the process of transferring your packaged song or style files from your local computer to the ChordWizard Network website.

It can be done in either of two ways.  The easiest is to use Network View within the workspace, where the upload happens automatically after the last step of the Upload Song process.

Alternatively you can select a disk file to upload, either with a standard browser, or from Network View.  It is recommended that uploaded files should be packaged, for the reasons outlined above.

Uploaded files are not automatically made public, they are simply stored in your private online area to await further use.

Publishing

Publishing on the ChordWizard Network is the act of selecting one of your uploaded files and making it available for other members to download in the Publications area.

A publication is like a wrapper that gives other members access to your uploaded file.  You can update the publication later with a new revision of the same file, without losing the accumulated ratings and comments of other members.

When you publish a file, you must declare the authorship and copyright status of the work.  In general you may only legally publish a work in one (or more) of the following cases:

• You are the author or copyright holder of the work

• You have permission to publish from someone else, who is the author or copyright holder of the work

• The work is in the public domain, so copyright does not apply.

You must also specify the type of license under which you are publishing the work on the ChordWizard Network, which determines how other people are allowed to use it.

License restrictions apply in addition to any logistical restrictions you may apply with song protection.  They can include the following:

• For personal interest only.  No other use.

• For non-profit performance use only.

• For non-profit printing use only.

• For educational use only.
