Manuals

The Groups page appears in the Printing Options property window for all report types.

It controls the ordering and layout of chord and scale groups within the report.

For Scale Charts reports only, it contains some extra options which specify how scale charts should appear within the groups.

Controls

Grouping

Specifies how the chord or scales groups in the report should be ordered.

Use Library Grouping - Uses the same grouping order that is set for the library in the Indexing Options.  This is disabled if the library is not grouped.

Formulas within Root Notes - Keeps groups of the same root note together, and repeats for each root note.  For example: Cmaj, Cm, C7, ... C#maj, C#m, C#7, ...

Root Notes within Formulas - Keeps groups of the same chord or scale type together, and repeats for each chord or scale type.  For example: Cmaj, C#maj, Dmaj, ... Cm, C#m, Dm, ...

Group Breaks

This option separates each chord or scale group in the report from those on either side.

Usually this is recommended, except for Chord Book reports in a song sheet style, where the chordshapes are shown in continuous rows.

Group Headings

This option displays a group heading for each chord or scale group in the report.

Usually this is recommended.  It is disabled if there are no Group Breaks.

Page Breaks

Specifies whether you want to have page breaks between the chord or scale groups in the report.  You can control page breaks separately Before Inner Groups and Before Outer Groups.

For Formulas within Root Notes grouping, the chord or scale types are the inner groups and the root notes are the outer groups.

For Root Notes within Formulas grouping, the root notes are the inner groups and the chord or scale types are the outer groups.

For either case, you can select the following page breaks:

(none) - No page break, the group continues from the previous one.

Next Page - The group starts at the top of the next page.

Odd Page - The group start at the top of the next odd page, to ensure that it appears on the right hand side of a bound report.

Scale Charts

All of the following options apply only to Scale Chart reports, and are hidden for other report types.

Series

Specifies how you want scale diagrams to appear within the Scale Chart report groups.

Full Positions - all available full positions are shown.  These are the same full positions which are shown interactively in Scales View.

Partial Positions - all available partial positions are shown.  These are the same partial positions which are shown interactively in Scales View.

Label Schemes - This shows not scale positions, but rather the scale note locations over the entire fretboard.  You can show multiple fretboard diagrams within groups, each with different labelling schemes.

Label Schemes

Specifies how the fretboard locations within Scale Chart reports should be labelled.  For a Full Positions or Partial Positions series, only one of these may be selected.  For a Label Schemes series, any or all of them may be selected.

Solid Dots - Shows plain dots without labels at each location.

Note Names - Shows the note name of each location.

Degree Names - Shows the degree name of each location.

Sequence - Shows the sequence number of each location, from 1 the number of notes in the scale.  For Major scales, this will look the same as Degree Names, but it will be quite different for other scale types.

Anchor Colors

If you have chosen to enable color printing in the Formatting page, the Scale Chart labels will appear in a different color for each note or degree in the scale.

The Anchor Colors dropdown list allows you to control how the label colors are anchored between different scales, similar to the settings within the Layout Options for the workspace.  It can be either of the following:

Notes - The same note is always labelled with the same color, regardless of which degree it represents within the scale.

Degrees - The same degree is always labelled with the same color, regardless of which note it produces in the scale.

Reset

Resets all settings in the Groups page to the system defaults.
