Volume at "0" when program opens

When I open songtrix there is no sound. When I open sound manager the "SW Synth" volume will be at 0 percent. Doesn't happen all the time.

By sound manager, do you mean the system volume controls? Do you get a warning from the Check Sound window when you startup?

Yes, the system sound manager. It seems I almost always get the volume warning when I open Songtrix.

Songtrix doesn't change the system volume settings except when you explicitly choose Fix in the Check Sound window (in which case it raises them to 75%).
Is it possible that another program on your system is changing the volume setting in between Songtrix sessions, but only Songtrix is reporting it?
What happens if you run Songtrix, fix the volume, close Songtrix and then run it again? Does it complain the second time?
