Songtrix is a great place to show off the amaizing softsynth that comes with Windows XP ie the Roland Sound Canvas
So ...
Pick instuments with a config file ("ins" file in Cubase and Midiox)
I know Cubase can create ins files from XML ... but I am sayin'
creating an instrument definition file from old sound canvas data (I have some) would be pretty easy
If you have not had the occasion to
Double click the file called "Onestop.mid" in the C:\windows\media directory. The better your sound card the better this will sound
... shows off the amazing sound canvas pretty well
We are exploring ways to support the .ins definition file format.
Are you sure your Windows XP comes with Roland Sound Canvas? None of ours do. Usually it's the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth.
YUP but I am almost sure the "history" of this is that microsoft purchased the then out-dated Sound Canvas from Roland, and the Microsoft GS Wavetable Syth "is" the Roland Sound canvas. Love to check this out. I wrote microsoft for info on this, just for fun. No response.
Here is a quote from PCMagazine:
"
In some recent versions of Windows, you may see a software-based MIDI synthesizer called Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth. This MIDI synthesizer uses instrument sounds from the Roland SoundCanvas, and it may be superior to the hardware synthesizer on your sound card.
