Problem with volume

Hi,
I'm having trouble with the volume sounding scratchy and decreasing at about the 3rd or 4th measure on one of my songs. I made no changes which would affect the volume.
After the problem began I did try changing a few volume settings, but that had no affect on the original problem. I shut down and re-opened Songtrix 3 or 4 times, but that has no affect either.
The problem began as I was editing the melody line for a song. I was inputting melody notes only and did not use style and have added no chords.
I'm not having volume issues with my other music notation software or any other applications which use volume.
After playing with the issue a while its evident that the problem is intermittent between the melody edit window and the main playback window in one short melody line. Sometimes the scratchy and lowered volume happens in both windows and sometimes only in one window or only in the other window.
On another song which is several measures longer I'm hearing a sound in several measures. Measures 3, 6, 22 and 38, but I didn't listen to that melody all the way through the song. The sound is not a distinct click, but sounds just like I have a speaker on my work bench and I'm quickly making a low voltage battery connection across the speaker terminals.
I doubt I could hear that soft scratch is I had chords included, but I believe if I added chords to the short amount which has lowered volume that the volume of the dhords would be lowered also.
Any ideas?
Thank you,

Can you send the problem song file to network@chordwizard.com and we will have a closer look at it.
Are the other songs you have worked with still sounding OK?
Thank you for the reply.
I'll attemt sending the songs.
Since I sent the original message about volume decreasing I wrote another (portion of a) song which does the same thing, that is, the bothersome volume decreases. The volume decreases happen in the same measure locations each time I play through the song. That happens whether I play songs through several times at the same sitting or whether I close SongTrix and return to the application several hours later.
Other songs:
Other of my songs which I recently reviewed are sounding subdued clicks, still. I vaguely remember hearing the clicks during playback of those songs as I was first beginning to use SongTrix, but I ignored the sounds. However the clicks in subsequent songs I'm writing are now "attached to' a decrease in volume, which is too bothersone to ignore.
While reviewing for clicks on one song of 102 measures in length I hear about 20 places where there is a click sound in the same measure locations regardless how many times I listen to the song.
Again, I'll attempt sending the songs.
Thank you for the help.

Hi Dale,
There is nothing wrong with the song you uploaded, plays fine on my machine.
I think your problem is with the Microsoft Synthesizer in Windows, I have in the past experienced similar crackling jitter sounds such as you are describing on Windows XP.
Are you using that version by any chance? In the end I had to reload Windows to get rid of it, but I'm sure that's not a solution you'll be excited about!
There's a couple of things you can try. First, if you tend to put the computer to sleep overnight, try a full shutdown-restart, this may rid the synth of whatever is causing the glitching.
Otherwise can you try Options-Workspace-Midi Setup and select Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth as the Midi Output device.
You will lose the reverb, but does it avoid the glitching?
Stephen,
Thank you for your time.
I changed the MIDI setting as you suggested. It made no difference. I also tried a few other MIDI output settings in conjunction with Songtrix restart, computer restart AND computer shutdown and restart, all to no avail.
My OS is VISTA Home Premium SP2, with all the automatic updates current.
I have my computer set to sleep after idle for a certain time, but its been necessary to restart it during the last few weeks. I purposely did a hard shutdown as you suggested. I did that a few times for various durations of OFF, yet it didn't solve the volume problem.

Interesting turn of phrase - - - how true - - - . That's pretty drastic - taxing and - - painful. WHEW . . . ))-: I'll give your other suggestions a few more opportunities before deciding to restart the machine to its factory state.
Thanks again,
Dale
