Export to .wav

Having some problems exporting to .wav. I get a messagebox that says something like "Cannot start recording. Insufficient memory to start recording to file...".

I get this even if I only try to export 1 bar. I guess it may be lack of memory (I have 1 Gb). Any other thoughts?

I see the same thing. I also have  1GB RAM (on this machine, I'm testing on two different machines), and the resulting wav file is only supposed to be about 1.7MB so I don't think its a RAM issue.

RAM is not the problem.  1GB is heaps.  Have either of you managed to get any WAV recording happening yet?

We haven't experienced this problem yet (I just tried then and it worked OK for me).  Do you get any joy if you change the frequency or resolution settings?

I can confirm the bug too. Just load up the Demo 2 (Using Styles) track and export as a wav using the default settings; the only thing I change is location the file is written to my documents. You then get the following:

Could not start recording audio.
Sufficient memory could not be allocated to store the wave data. Try a smaller selection from the song, or less repeat loops.

My machine is Pentium M 2GHz with 2G RAM and with the application running it's only using 352M or RAM.

Just a thought, I know Windows sound recorder has a pretty low limit on lenght/size of recordings. Maybe the program is encountering that limit when it tries to save the file.

No, just tried that, but still no joy.

>>Maybe the program is encountering that limit when it tries to save the file.

Maybe, but I tried just one bar...

Thanks for the extra comments, just exported "Demo 2 (Using Styles)" fine on one of our test machines with only 512 MB.

I know that's not much help you!  Leave it with me and we'll have a closer look at memory management for recording.  I might post some more questions here in a day or two.

FYI: just purchased a new athlon 64 bit dual core with 1GB memory and still getting error on attempting to export to wave file. Also, I noted that as soon as you press "save" the error box pops up and the file immediately begins playback. Also noted that the stop and pause buttons are greyed out. You have to press the play button twice to stop playback.

Hi Jim,

We haven't had a very close at this problem yet, but we're convinced it's not memory problem (just a bad message!).

It seems the problem really lies with the Windows mixer, somehow you seem to have a configuration that Songtrix is not expecting.  We might put a diagnostic tool in the next beta release to help us track it down.

For those who are having this problem, you will probably find that the mixer panel meters in Song view are also not working?  (they should be). The two processes are linked as they both use the Wave In channel to sample the rendered audio output of your midi device.

Thanks for the extra info on playback after the error condition, we'll check this out too.

Hi all,

I'm happy to report that this problem is now fixed in the new Songtrix v3.0-beta-2 release.

The out-of-memory message was a bit misleading. The problem actually occurs on systems without a MIDI Synth input line to the recording volume control.

Songtrix was trying to set this to maximum before recording the WAV file, wasn't finding it, and failing the whole operation.

Would be great if you could download the new beta-2 release and confirm that it's working OK now on your PC.

Hi Steven,

Sorry, haven't been around to try this! I can confirm .wav export works fine here in v3.0-beta-4.

Regards,

Rob.

I'm seeing this error on 3.01f :-( and indeed the mixer meters are dead as well.

No replies? It's time to make my purchase, but I can't decide without this feature :-/
