The Guitar Chord tool can be accessed from the workspace in the following ways:
| Button | Menu |
| Tools-Guitar Chord |
It appears as shown below, and allows you to identify and enter a guitar chordshape into the song.
Songtrix does not directly support the use of guitar chordshapes in the way that some other ChordWizard products do.
However, this tool allows you convert a chordshape to a chord inversion that can be entered in the Chords track, preserving the distinctive sound of the chordshape.
Controls
Chordshape
You enter your chordshape here. It must have six numeric digits, each representing the finger position for a string on the guitar, starting with the bass string.
A zero represents an open string, and an X represents a mute string (not played in the chordshape). An underlined digit adds 10 to the fret number, for example 0 indicates fret 10, and 9 indicates fret 19.
You hold down the Shift key to enter these higher, underlined frets.
Play Chordshape
Auditions the sound of the chordshape as currently entered.
Matching Chords
As the chordshape is entered, the pitches it contains are analyzed to find the matching chords. These are placed into the list in order, with the closest match at the top.
Any notes of each chord which are missing from the chordshape are indicated.
Play Chord
Auditions the sound of the selected chord in the Matching Chords list. You can compare this with the sound of the original chordshape.
Chordshape Inversion
This specifies the precision of the chord inversion which is to be returned to the song.
Ignore - only the chord itself (eg. Gmaj).
Bass Pitch - the chord and the bass pitch of the chordshape (eg. Gmaj/G3).
Exact - the chord and the exact pitches of the inversion (eg. Gmaj/G3,B,D,G,D,G).
Exact inversions retain the precise sound of the chordshape but the extra detail can make the work sheet look untidy. Exactness is not needed if you want to enter the chords of a guitar part, but do not need to preserve the precise sound of the chordshapes.
Update
Inserts the selected matching chord (and optional inversion) into the chord segment with the focus.
If the workspace focus is on a different segment type, the Update button is inactive.
Cancel
Closes the Guitar Chord window and takes no action.
