Manuals

The Custom Inversion window is opened using the Custom Inversion button in the chord bar, or the Edit Chord window.

It offers complete flexibility in the choice of pitches that a chord inversion contains.  Unlike standard inversions, tones can be mute, can be duplicates, do not need be ascending in pitch, and do not even need to be based on a chord selection.

While you may not often use this window directly, many chordshapes entered via the Guitar Chord window can only be precisely expressed as a custom inversion.

Depending on the Chord Tones setting in the setup of the Chords track, the Custom Inversion window may list anywhere from 3 to 8 tones which can be assigned to any pitch for the inversion.

Controls

Include

Each tone in the inversion can be individually included or not.  If this checkbox is not ticked, the tone will be a null pitch (as shown above for tones 3 and 5) and its pitch list will be disabled.

Pitch

Each tone included in the custom inversion can be independently assigned a pitch using a drop-down list.  If the custom inversion is based on a chord, only pitches compatible with the chord are listed, otherwise all pitches are listed.

In contrast to a standard inversion, the pitches you select for the tones do not need to be in ascending order.

OK

Updates the chord segment with the custom inversion as specified, and closes the window.

Cancel

Closes the window without updating the chord inversion.
