The Fretboard indicates with Overlay Labels the locations of the notes or degrees in the current scale position.
When you select a scale with the Scale Matrix, it usually has several positions available, which you can navigate between using the Practice Grid, the Scales Bar or by clicking on the fretboard.
If there are no scale positions available for the selected scales, or if there is no scale selected, the fretboard remains empty.
The fretboard normally shows labels only for the current scale position. You can find other scale positions by hovering the mouse pointer over the fretboard.
Wherever you find a location which belongs to a different scale position, it will be highlighted with a hollow label as shown above. When you click on the label, you will select the scale position at that location.
You can also get an indication of the other scale positions by choosing to show All Fretboard Labels in the Practice options. Non-position scale notes will then appear all over the fretboard in gray.
You can explore the sound of notes made at different fretboard locations by hovering the mouse pointer over the fretboard and pressing the right mouse button. The mouse pointer then changes to a finger pointer, and will play the note of each location it moves over.
When conducting a practice session, an animated green finger block appears on the fretboard at the location currently being played. The strings will also flash to green when they are being played, as shown above. This helps you to keep track as you follow on your own physical instrument.
The example above shows the fretboard horizontally, with the head to the left and the bass string towards the bottom. You can change to any orientation you like with the Orientation options.
