Export midi/wav

Not sure what's going on here, whether I export as midi or wav it sounds terrible! It sounds like it's clipping (digital clipping....yuk). I've set the gain at various settings from 1 to 100 and even tried different settings in file format. All to no avail. Other midis and wavs sound fine?

Did you mean to write midi or do you mean mp3? I'm not sure how clipping can happen for a midi file.
If you mean wav/mp3, can you let me know exactly which sound card you are using. We have encountered a problem with some Sound Blaster products during development, which has similar symptoms.
Inexplicably they seem to drop samples, causing a clipping-like effect (although technically it's not). So we built in a workaround. Would be very interested to know if it fixes your problem.
Basically it's this: During the export process (in Step 2, Options) increase the Sample Period from 50 ms to say 100, 200, 500 or 1000 ms. See if any value works for you. The only (relatively minor) side effect of this is that the level meters become sluggish during the Render Wave process. The Mixer View meters are unaffected.
Yes, sorry I did mean wav/mp3. The sound card is a Realtek AC97 with the most current drivers & codecs. I tried it at both 500 and 1000 even though it wasn't a Blaster, but neither helped. Let me know and I can email you one of the sound files or whatever you need. That said the only thing I've really changed on this end since the last time I exported successfully was install Reaper sound studio software and some ASIO drivers for use with it. But (supposedly) to use the ASIO driver it has to be selected in Reapers options settings. Is it possible Songtrix is somehow using that driver rather than the default sound card drivers?
Also (unrelated) can other soundfonts be used in Songtrix, or any plans to make that an option? FYI: I've been "casually" using Songtrix but am getting a little deeper into it now. So if you start hearing more from me, that's why. Have you started the help file yet? If so, I'd be glad to beta that for you too.
Yes please, if you can email a (short!) sound file to network@chordwizard.com that would be a great help.
I don't think Songtrix would be affected by ASIO drivers, as it only uses standard Windows drivers for MIDI playback and WAVE recording. But you can have a look to see how this is configured with:
Settings
-Control Panel
-Sounds And Audio Devices
-Audio page
-Sound Recording
We still need a couple of months to finish off the last few features and then we will begin on the help file. It will be included with the beta releases and will gradually become more complete over the weeks after that.
