Practicing your instrument should not feel like a chore it should be something that you want to do. There is only one thing that will make you actually want to practice: you love your instrument. If you don't love your instrument now you need to either to put your instrument aside and find something that you do love or you need to learn to love your instrument. One way to test yourself if you aren't sure that you love your instrument is to put it aside for a few days and seeing if it is something that you miss doing.
HI PIANOGIRL, I REALLY LOVE MY SAXOPHONES AND MY KEYBOARDS, BUT I FIND THAT NOT ALL OF BUILDING MANAGEMENT WHERE I LIVE IS AS EXCITED ABOUT THE 'STUFF' WE MUST DO BEFORE MAKING 'PRETTY' MUSIC HAPPEN!!! THIS IS VERY DISCOURAGING, AS MANAGEMENT 'AGREES' THAT IT'S O.K. DURING REASONABLE HOURS, BUT WILL NOT PUT IT IN WRITING, OR PUT THE O.K. IN MY LEASE...ON TOP OF THAT, IF ANYONE FINDS ANY MANNER OF 'NOISE' (RELATIVE) OFFENSIVE, THE 'OFFENDER' WILL GET A 30 DAY LEASE TERMINATION NOTICE........I RECALL PLAYING LEONTYNE PRICE AND THEN KATHLEEN BATTLE ONE DAY, IN ANOTHER BUILDING AND A 'NEIGHBOR' FROM THE NEXT BUILDING SHOUTED OUT HER WINDOW TO TURN THAT ---- OFF!!! I GO MANY DAYS WITHOUT PRACTICING, BECAUSE I AM SENSITIVE TO OTHER'S NEEDS AS WELL AS MY OWN. THERE'S NO WAY TO 'MUTE' A SAXOPHONE AND MY BRAND NEW ONE IS COSTING ME A PRETTY PENNY FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS, OF WHICH I HAVE OPTED TO EAT 'BIRDSEED' FOR DINER EVERYDAY IF NECESSARY...CAN'T AFFORD A PRACTICE ROOM.....ANY THOUGHTS?.DESPERATE TO PLAY!!!!...DARLENE ROSS
