Manuals

The New Chord Type window opens when you press the New button in the Chord Types page.

It allows you to add chord types (of your own design) to the list of chord types that Songtrix makes available throughout the workspace.

A new chord type must have a unique combination of degrees, and a unique name not already used by another chord type in the list.

Controls

Name

Here you can enter a name for your chord type, such as add#9 shown in the example above.

Active

Specifies whether the new chord type will be initially active.  Usually this is what you want.

Add to End

Specifies whether the new chord type will be placed at the end of Chord Types list or whether it will be inserted before the current selection.

Play Chord Type

Auditions the sound of the new chord type as currently defined.

Degree Names

Some of the possible degrees of a chord type can have alternate names.  The buttons above the grid allow you to modify these degree names if you use them in your new chord type.

The alternatives are #4/b5, #5/b6, 6/bb7 and #6/b7

Include Degrees

The row of buttons below the grid allows you to select which degrees to include in your new chord type.  Every chord type must have between two and eight degrees, one of which must be the root (1).

Each can be either a required degree (which must be present in matching chords) or an optional degree.

= required degree

= optional degree

OK

Attempts to add the new chord type.  If successful, closes the window, otherwise shows a message explaining the problem.

Cancel

Closes the window without adding the new chord type.
