The Power Match window is available from Design View with the following command:
| Button | Menu |
| Chordshape-Power Match |
It provides intense analysis of a chordshape to identify its matching chords when those automatically displayed in the Matching Chords list are not adequate.
This situation can happen for two reasons:
• ChordWizard may be operating at Beginner or Intermediate level, where some of its known chord types are not activated.
• The chordshape may make a chord of an usual type, which is not among ChordWizard's standard chord types.
The Power Match window deals with both situations, in a two step process.
Step 1: Known Chord Types - ChordWizard reanalyses the notes in the chordshape using all of the known chord types, regardless of whether they are activated or not. In many cases, this is sufficient to find an exact matching chord, and you will not need to proceed to step 2.
Step 2: New Chord Types - ChordWizard attempts to construct new chord types to suit the notes contained in the chordshape. Music theory guidelines are rigorously observed to ensure that only valid chord types are suggested.
When you find a matching chord that you are happy with, the Power Match process will make whatever changes are needed to your Chord Types options so that the matching chord will appear for the chordshape in the general workspace.

Power Match List
This is the main feature in the Power Match window. It lists each Chord Type which could be used to make a matching chord for the chordshape, together with the Root note that it would need to be combined with. The list items are sorted in order of preference, with the best choice at the top of the list.
The Degrees of each chord type are listed in the third column. Required degrees are shown in bold, while optional degrees are bracketed. See Matching or Chord Types options for more details.
If any of the matching chords is an inexact match (with optional degrees missing) the Missing degrees are also indicated. If no missing degrees appear for a list item, you know that it is an exact match.
Enforce Required Degrees
This option appears only for step 1 of the Power Match process. It instructs ChordWizard, during its analysis, to respect the required degrees defined for each known chord type.
This is how ChordWizard's normal matching process behaves, and it is recommended that the option should remain ticked.
Removing the tick will loosen up the matching process, and reveal more matching chords of less certain quality. This allows required degrees of a chord type to be changed to optional.
Play Selection
Plays the selected matching chord in the Power Match list, so you can compare it to the sound of the chordshape.
Accept Selection
Notifies the Power Match window that you want the selected matching chord to be used for the chordshape in the general workspace. It will then update your Chord Types options to achieve this.
Before any changes takes place, you will be prompted with a message box describing exactly what will be updated, and given the opportunity to cancel.
If you proceed, you will be returned to Design View, and will find that your new matching chord now appears in the Matching Chords list.
Next >>
Proceeds from step 1 to step 2, if you don't find any suitable matching chords from among the known chord types.
If you are already in step 2, this button is marked << Back and returns you to step 1.
Cancel
Closes the Power Match window and returns to Design View without making any changes.
