The Matching Chords list shows all the matching chords for the current chordshape design in Design View.
These matching chords are updated automatically each time the chordshape design changes, and the chordshape is also shown on the Fretboard.
Sometimes there may be more than one matching chord, depending on your Indexing options. In this case, as illustrated, they are ranked in order of preference, with the best matches at the top of the list.
Some inexact matching chords may also be shown, which have missing notes. These are acceptable to use if there are no exact matches available.
Inexact matches are shown with smaller text and a different color. The Matching Chords list also indicates which note(s) is missing and which degree(s) of the matching chord they represent.
You can hear the sound of the chordshape, or see how its notes appear in staff notation with the following commands:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| F5 | Chordshape-Play | |
| Ctrl+F5 | Chordshape-View Staff |
Selecting Chords
The selected matching chord is indicated with a yellow box around it. Depending on which matching chord you select (if there is more than one) the degree labels on the Fretboard will be updated to indicate how the notes in the chordshape design contribute to the matching chord.
You can change the selected matching chord by clicking on the one you want, or by using the following commands:
| Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+Up | Chordshape-Matching Chord-Prior |
| Ctrl+Down | Chordshape-Matching Chord-Next |
You can hear the sound of the selected matching chord, or see how its notes appear in staff notation with the following commands:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| F6 | Chordshape-Matching Chord-Play | |
| Ctrl+F6 | Chordshape-Matching Chord-View Staff |
If you are not satisfied with the matching chords that are shown in this list, you can open the Power Match window to analyse the chordshape more closely.
