The Notes To Scales tool can be accessed from the workspace in the following ways:
| Button | Menu |
| Tools-Notes To Scales |
It appears as shown below, and allows you to identify which scales contain a set of notes.
Controls
Notes
The notes of the octave are shown as buttons arranged in a circle, emphasizing the cyclic nature of the octave.
Each button can be pressed to include the note, or released to remove the note from the set. The example above has the notes C, D, E, F# and G included.
Clear Notes
Removes all selected notes from the set. Provides a quicker way to reset your input than releasing each button separately.
Play Notes
Auditions the sound of the selected notes, played in sequence.
Scales
As the notes are included or removed, the set is analyzed to find the matching scales. These are placed into the list, with the closest match at the top.
As each scale is selected, degree labels appear within the circle of notes, indicating how each note contributes to its formation. The example above has G=1, C=4, D=5, E=6, F#=7, because G Major is the selected scale.
Each scale in the list displays a percentage which indicates how many of its notes are included in the set of notes. For example, the 71% figures indicate five out of the seven notes of the scales are present.
Hide Synonym Scales
To make the results easier to view, scales can be hidden if they are only synonyms (containing the same set of notes) which are modes of a scale that is already listed.
For example, if this option was selected above, only the G Major scale would be listed, since the other results are simply alternative modes of this scale.
Send To Filter
Updates the filter in the workspace with the selected scale.
Relations of Scale
Opens the Relations window so you can explore which chords are related to the selected scale.
Play Scale
Auditions the sound of the selected scale. This can be compared with the sound of the notes.
Close
Closes the window and returns to the workspace.
