The Filter is one of the most powerful and flexible features of ChordWizard.
It sets a context, such as a chord or scale, for your current activity or exploration, which allows each view within the ChordWizard workspace to automatically focus in on relevant musical elements.
Because the filter is a workspace setting, it also allows a context to be transferred between views. So for example, if you find a scale in Relations View, you can switch directly to Scales View to practice it.
Or if you find a chord in Relations View, you can switch directly to Library View to find a chordshape for playing it.
Changing the Filter
There are many ways to set, change, or remove the filter within the ChordWizard workspace.
The most comprehensive method is the Set Filter window, which is opened with the following command:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+F | Filter-Set |
The filter can be removed with:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+Shift+F | Filter-Remove |
The two buttons shown above also appear on the Library Bar and the Design Bar.
The Filter Bar is a convenient way to view or update all criteria of the filter without opening a popup window. You can show or hide it with the View Menu.
Several of the workspace tools can update the filter with a selected chord or scale, including the Notes To Chords tool, the Chord Synonyms tool, the Scale Synonyms tool, and the Relations tool.
ChordWizard remembers the last 20 filter settings you have used in the current session with a library. You can manage or reinstate previous filters using the following commands:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Filter-Previous | ||
| Filter-Next | ||
| Ctrl+H | Filter-History |
The Status Bar indicates all components of the current filter settings.
Filters and Overlay Labels
The Filter and Overlay Labels work very closely together.
Overlay labels indicate where the notes of chords or scales are located on the fretboard of an instrument, and they appear automatically when the chord or scale criteria of the filter is set.
Many aspects of overlay labels can be adjusted, separately for each view, using the Layout Options, or the Filter-Overlay menu group.
