The Note Names window opens when you press the Note Names button in the General page.

It controls how the names of notes are constructed wherever they are presented in the workspace.

Default Names

There are five notes which do not have a name of their own, and can be known by either by adding a sharp (#) to the note below, or a flat (b) to the note above it.

The Default Names area specifies the names to be used for these notes throughout the ChordWizard workspace for root notes or notes which are not degrees of a chord or scale.

Octave Numbers

Note names repeat within each octave, so if an exact pitch is to be specified, the octave number needs to be added to the note (eg. C#4).

There are two common schemes for assigning octave numbers to pitches, depending on which octave number you give to Middle C.  The scheme you select will be used throughout the workspace.

Middle C = C4 - which makes the Midi pitch range (0 to 127) from C-1 to G9.

Middle C = C5 - which makes the Midi pitch range from C0 to G10.

Note Order

Specifies the order in which notes appear in various areas of the workspace, including chord matrix and scale matrix controls and note lists.

Normally, notes are ordered from C to B, but you can override this with your own preference.  For example, you may prefer notes to go from A to G#, similar to alphabetical order.

OK

Accepts all settings and closes the window.

Cancel

Closes the window without making any changes to the original settings.
