The fretboard of your instrument appears in four of the five views in ChordWizard.
Different people have different preferences for the orientation of the fretboard, so ChordWizard supports all of the possible combinations.
Often left-handers will prefer to have the head of the instrument (where the tuning pegs are) at the right of the screen. And opinion is generally divided over whether the bass string should appear at the bottom or the top of the fretboard.
The initial orientation is chosen during installation, but it can be changed at any time.
Step-By-Step
Step 1
Open the Workspace Options window, with the following command:
| Button | Menu |
| Options-Workspace |
The Orientation page is the first in the Workspace Options window, and is initially active.
Step 2
The three areas Fretboard, Bass String and Head let you select any of the possible eight orientations. As you change any of these, the Preview area is updated with a diagram showing the orientation you will get with the current selection.
Step 3
First, decide if you want the Fretboard to be Vertical or Horizontal. The latter generally works better with the shape of the screen. Both look fine for printed diagrams in chord books.
Then select which way you want the Bass String and Head to be placed.
The bass string side of the fretboard is usually obvious, with the bass string being one of the outer strings. This not always the case - for instruments like the ukulele and 5-string banjo, take bass string to mean "the string which is played first with a downstrum".
Step 4
Press OK to accept your new fretboard orientation, and the workspace will be immediately updated for all views.
