ChordWizard supports a wide range of stringed instruments and tunings.
Each library is designed to work with a specific instrument and tuning, so by opening a different library, you can instantly be presented with a different instrument.
It is a straightforward process to switch between libraries in this way.
Step-By-Step
Step 1
The instrument you are currently using is shown in the far right section of the Status Bar.
To change instruments, we will open a different library using the Switch Library window. This is opened with the following command:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+W | File-Switch Library |
Step 2
The Switch Library window lets you change either your playing level or instrument. The list of available Instruments appears at the top, as shown.
These are the most common stringed instruments, for which ChordWizard supplies standard libraries.
Select a different item from the list, and press OK to return to the workspace with your new instrument.
Step 3
The fretboard can change dramatically with different instruments. For example, the mandolin uses string pairs, and the 5-string banjo has a short string starting at the 5th fret.
Notice that the voice used for playing chords and scales also changes to be most appropriate for the new instrument.
Step 4
Now let's try a more exotic instrument or tuning, for which we don't yet have a library. Open the Switch Library window again, but this time place a tick the Show All Instruments checkbox at the top.
Now the Instrument list changes to show all standard instruments and tunings, not just those that we have libraries for.
Select an unusual instrument and tuning, perhaps the Cittern, GDGDG Tuning just above the Guitar. Then press OK.
Step 5
Because there is no library for this instrument and tuning yet, you will get a message box asking if you want to create a new library. Press Yes.
ChordWizard will now start the New Library process to create a library for your selected instrument and tuning, and automatically populate it with chordshapes.
